If there are no utility poles between buildings and the distance between two buildings is around 50 meters, the optical cable can also be directly installed using steel cables between the buildings. When using aerial methods to install drop fiber cables in flat environments, hooks are used for suspension. When installing optical cables on slopes or inclines, the lashing method is used for cable installation. Optical cable connectors should be selected in straight pole sections that are easy to maintain, and reserved optical cables should be securely fixed to the utility poles using reserved brackets.

For aerial optical cable pole routes, the optical cable should have a U-shaped expansion bend every 3 to 5 pole spans, with approximately 15 meters reserved per kilometer. Downlead aerial (wall-mounted) optical cables should be protected with galvanized pipes, and pipe openings should be sealed with fireproof putty. Aerial optical cables should be marked with warning signs, placed approximately every 4 pole spans, and at special areas such as road crossings, river crossings, and bridge crossings. The connection points between aerial guy wires and cables should be reinforced with three-way protective tubes, extending no less than 1 meter at each end.
